Cable Design: The criteria
Technology behind Abbey Road Cable
When we design a cable we want to achieve one thing: To have a cable that works as if there is no cable at all. That means to have a cable that, in audio terms, is absolutely neutral, one that is truly transparent.

In order to do this we must understand the electrical and material science at work. In this document we will look at this, and then show how we combine techniques and materials knowledge to satisfy the fundamentals of a transparent cable listed below.

Penthouse suite A transparent cable must have the following properties:-
• Minimal effect on phase
• Minimal attenuate to the sound
• To be 'fast' (to have a low propagation delay factor)
• To be stable with age and to be terminated well

There are additional factors such as how easy it is to handle and how good it looks in a home environment. But the fundamentals must be solved first. These pages illustrate for you how we have done this, explaining the principles at work and showing why the small details make such significant impact on performance.
